Caution: If you are an overly sensitive person who has delicate feelings this article is not for you. However, if you are a person who wants to fix yourself and bring positive change to your life this article is for you.
You are not overweight! You are not obese! You are not hefty! You damn sure are not big-boned! Chances are you do not have a genetic or medical condition that made you fat. The odds are you made a lot of bad eating decisions and you don’t move your body enough. THE EXCUSES NEED TO STOP!
Now the point of this article is not to fat shame people or make them feel like inferior human beings. The point is to help others that want to help themselves. But, you actually have to want to help yourself. You can tell others you want to lose weight, you want to be healthy, you want to be active, but if your actions speak otherwise you are full of crap.
WHO ARE YOU?
In my opinion there are two types of people in this world. Sayers and Doers. Sayers are people who talk a lot, but don’t show much action. “I want to lose weight”, “I am going to be successful”. Blah blah blah. Sayers may have good intentions, but lack the backbone to get things done. Doers are your bosses. Doers make plan, act, and accomplish results. The world needs more Doers and less Sayers.
ADMIT THE PROBLEM
Like any problem you cannot solve it if you can’t admit the problem. If you deny that you are fat….you are never going to not be fat!
BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
Let’s be real here. You did not become fat overnight. If took years of letting yourself go to get to the point where you are at now. You ate more than one too many extra value meals. The all-you-can-eat buffet did not actually want you to literally test that theory.
If you haven’t been involved in sport or exercise since high school you are not going to walk into the gym and turn into Rocky overnight.
Your transformation is going to take time. If it took you 5 years to get so fat that you are disgusted with yourself it is going to take at least a year to get to the point where you don’t completely disgust yourself anymore.
There are going to be obstacles along the way. Nobody ever got the body they dreamed of quickly and easily. In fact, most people never obtain their dream body. However, if you put in the effort, the time, the will, and the discipline you will get as close to that dream body as possible.
HAVE A PLAN
If you think you are going to walk into a gym and magically become awesome after a week of exercising you are sadly mistaken. You need to educate yourself on how the human body works. You need to educate yourself on what to eat and how to move for optimal results. More importantly you need to educate yourself on what not to eat and how not to waste your time exercising.
I just want to be less fat, why do I have to build muscle? Think of fat burning like a demolition project. You could destroy a building with a sledgehammer and some handhold tools. You could, but it would be exhausting and take forever. OR YOU COULD DESTROY THAT BUILDING WITH A FU**ING WRECKING BALL! Muscle will be your greatest asset in your fight against fat. The more muscle mass you have in relation to your bodyweight the more fat you will be able burn.
How do I build muscle? With resistance! Think barbells, dumbbells, weight machines, and your bodyweight.
You could lose fat without building muscle. However, you will end up with saggy skin and it will take you a lot longer to get to your goal. I am all about the simplest and most effective way to success.
If you are ready to have a heart attack after climbing one flight of stairs you better get ready for serious health concerns. If you avoid stairs like the plague, start taking the stairs now! It has been said that climbing 8 flights of stairs a day can reduce your chance of mortality. I don’t know how scientific that is. I don’t care either. Climbing stairs will make you healthier, lighter, and better.
Are you so fat that you cannot walk around the block? Guess what? Start walking! Every damn day! Walk until you need a break. Take a break. Walk some more. Make walking a priority. If your cardio is terrible your weight lifting will be too.
Wake up earlier. Drink some water. Drink some tea or coffee. Don’t add sugar or other crap. Then go for a walk. Every morning! If it is cold, put on a hoody. If it is hot, deal with it. If it is raining, suck it up. People who make excuses get nowhere in life.
THE HOLY GRAIL
What is the most important thing you can do to not be fat anymore? Eat better! Nutrition matters! Take the words fast food, extra value meal, fried, sugar, and dessert out of your vocabulary. Instead of spending $7 on a 2,000 calorie meal loaded with trans fat, sugar, and garbage spend the $7 on good whole foods. Think chicken breast, broccoli, almonds, and sweet potatoes.
You have to learn how to eat to torch body fat instead of adding on to it. You have to rev up your metabolism instead of slowing it down.
SEEK HELP WHEN NEEDED

Don’t let life get in the way of your mission. Prepare your food ahead of time. Plan your workouts. Make yourself a priority! If you don’t care enough about yourself, why should anyone else? Most of your friends and family are too scared to tell you that you need to lose weight, because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. But, I guarantee they will be super happy and proud of you when they see you putting in the effort.
